Draupadī’s Lament and Indictment of Misfortune
दुःखेन महता युक्ता मानसेन मनस्विनी । 'भीमसेनके सिवा दूसरा कोई आज मेरे मनको प्रिय लगनेवाला कार्य नहीं कर सकता'-ऐसा निश्चय करके वह विशाल नेत्रोंवाली सती-साध्वी सनाथा कृष्णा रातको अपनी शय्या छोड़कर उठी और अपने नाथ (रक्षक)-से मिलनेकी इच्छा रखकर शीघ्रतापूर्वक भीमसेनके भवनमें गयी। उस समय मनस्विनी द्रौपदी महान् मानसिक दुःखसे पीड़ित थी
duḥkhena mahatā yuktā mānasena manasvinī | ‘bhīmasenake śivā dūsarā koī āja mere manako priya laganevālā kārya nahīṃ kara sakatā’—iti niścayaṃ kṛtvā sā viśālanetrā satī-sādhvī sanāthā kṛṣṇā rātrau svāṃ śayyāṃ tyaktvotthāya sva-nātha (rakṣaka)-darśanecchayā śīghrataraṃ bhīmasenasya bhavanaṃ yayau | tadā manasvinī draupadī mahān mānasa-duḥkhena pīḍitā āsīt ||
Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: Pinahihirapan ng matinding dalamhating pangkaisipan, ang matatag na si Draupadī ay nagpasya: “Si Bhīmasena lamang ang makagagawa ngayon ng minimithi ng aking puso; wala nang iba.” Ang malalaking-mata at marangal na Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī), na wari’y may tagapagtanggol pa, ay bumangon sa gabi mula sa kanyang higaan at, sabik na makatagpo ang kanyang panginoon at tagapag-ingat, nagmadaling tumungo sa tahanan ni Bhīmasena. Noon, si Draupadī ay dinudurog ng malalim na pighating panloob.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights moral agency under distress: Draupadī, though suffering, acts with resolve and seeks rightful protection and effective help. It underscores the dharmic expectation that a protector (nātha) should respond to injustice, and that endurance does not exclude decisive action.
Draupadī, overwhelmed by mental pain, concludes that only Bhīma can carry out the task she desires. She rises at night, leaves her bed, and quickly goes to Bhīma’s residence to meet her protector, indicating an urgent appeal for intervention.
