samabhyarcya yathānyāyaṃ dharmaputro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ | papracchāgamane hetum aṭane ca prayojanam ||
Matapos silang parangalan ayon sa nararapat, si Yudhiṣṭhira, anak ni Dharma, ay nagtanong kung ano ang dahilan ng kanilang pagdating at ano ang layon ng kanilang paglalagalag sa gubat.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dhārmic conduct in receiving others: one should first honor guests properly (yathā-nyāyam) and then inquire into their reasons and aims without suspicion or discourtesy—combining respect with prudent discernment.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Yudhiṣṭhira, after giving due reception to the visitors, asks why they have come and what purpose they have in wandering in the forest.
