Dhaumya’s Enumeration of Eastern Tīrthas
Prācī-diś Tīrtha-kathana
विधूतपाप्मा भवति वाजपेयं च विन्दति । महाबाहो! उस तीर्थमें स्नान करके मनुष्य सब पापोंसे मुक्त हो जाता है। ब्रह्मचर्यपालनपूर्वक एकाग्र हो गंगाजीमें स्नान करके मनुष्य पापरहित होता तथा वाजपेययज्ञका फल पाता है
vidhūtapāpmā bhavati vājapeyaṃ ca vindati | mahābāho! us tīrtha meṃ snāna karke manuṣya sab pāpoṃ se mukta ho jātā hai | brahmacaryapālanapūrvaka ekāgra ho gaṅgājī meṃ snāna karke manuṣya pāparahita hotā tathā vājapeyayajñakā phala pātā hai |
Wika ni Pulastya: “Ang sinumang maligo sa banal na tawiran na iyon ay nalilinis sa kasalanan at nagkakamit ng gantimpalang tulad ng handog na Vājapeya. O makapangyarihang bisig! Kapag ang isang tao, matapos munang mag-ingat ng brahmacarya at may pusong nakatuon, ay maligo sa Ilog Gaṅgā sa tīrtha na ito, siya’y napapalaya sa pagkakasala at nakakamit ang bunga ng Vājapeya.”
पुलस्त्य उवाच
The passage teaches that ethical self-restraint (brahmacarya) and mental focus, when joined to sacred practice (bathing at a tīrtha in the Gaṅgā), lead to purification from sin and confer great religious merit—comparable to performing a major royal sacrifice like the Vājapeya.
Pulastya is describing the greatness (māhātmya) of a particular pilgrimage spot: he tells the listener addressed as 'mahābāho' that bathing there—especially with prior observance of brahmacarya and concentration—removes sins and grants the fruit of the Vājapeya sacrifice.
