Dharma-śaṅkā-nivāraṇa: Yudhiṣṭhira’s Response on Karma-Phala and Trust in Dharma
न त्वेवात्मावमन्तव्य: पुरुषेण कदाचन । न हाात्मपरिभूतस्य भूतिर्भवति शोभना,मनुष्य कभी अपने-आपका अनादर न करे--अपने-आपको छोटा न समझे। जो स्वयं ही अपना अनादर करता है, उसे उत्तम ऐश्वर्यकी प्राप्ति नहीं होती
na tv evātmāvamantavyaḥ puruṣeṇa kadācana | na hy ātmaparibhūtasya bhūtir bhavati śobhanā ||
Wika ni Yudhiṣṭhira: “Huwag kailanman hamakin ng tao ang sarili, ni ituring ang sarili na walang halaga. Sapagkat sa taong siya mismo ang umalipusta sa sariling dangal, hindi sisibol ang tunay na maringal na kasaganaan at kagalingan.”
युधिछिर उवाच
One should not belittle oneself; self-contempt undermines the very basis of flourishing. Ethical strength and outward prosperity are sustained by inner dignity and self-regard aligned with dharma.
In the Vana Parva dialogue context, Yudhiṣṭhira articulates a moral principle: a person must not lose heart or degrade himself, because such inner defeat prevents the attainment of honorable success and well-being.
