अध्याय ३० — क्रोधदोषाः क्षमाप्रशंसा च
Defects of Anger and the Praise of Forbearance
ब्राह्मणा: सर्वकामैस्ते सततं पार्थ तर्पिता: । यतयो मोक्षिणश्रैव गृहस्थाश्वैव भारत,पार्थ! आपने ब्राह्मणोंकी समस्त कामनाएँ पूरी करके सदा उन्हें तृप्त किया है। भारत! आपके यहाँ मोक्षाभिलाषी संन्यासी तथा गृहस्थ ब्राह्मण सोनेके पात्रोंमें भोजन करते थे। जहाँ स्वयं मैं अपने हाथों उनकी सेवा-टहल करती थी। वानप्रस्थोंको भी आप सोनेके पात्र दिया करते थे। आपके घरमें कोई ऐसी वस्तु नहीं थी, जो ब्राह्मणोंके लिये अदेय हो
brāhmaṇāḥ sarvakāmais te satataṃ pārtha tarpitāḥ | yatayo mokṣiṇaś caiva gṛhasthāś caiva bhārata ||
Wika ni Yudhiṣṭhira: “O Pārtha, lagi mong pinasiyahan ang mga Brāhmaṇa sa pagtupad sa bawat makatarungang hangarin nila. O Bhārata, sa iyong sambahayan, kapwa ang mga ascetic na naghahangad ng mokṣa at ang mga Brāhmaṇa na may tahanan ay pinarangalan at sinuportahan nang nararapat.”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse upholds dāna and hospitality as central to dharma: a righteous household (and by extension a righteous ruler) sustains both renunciants seeking liberation and householders devoted to social and ritual duties, honoring learning and spiritual striving through continual support.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Arjuna, recalling and praising Arjuna’s (and his household’s) established practice of generously honoring brāhmaṇas—both ascetics and householders—thereby highlighting the family’s former prosperity and dharmic conduct in contrast to their present hardship in exile.
