Sūrya-stava: Dhaumya’s Counsel and the Aṣṭaśata-nāma of Sūrya
फलमूलामिषं शाकं संस्कृतं यन्महानसे । चतुर्विधं तदन्नाद्यमक्षय्यं ते भविष्यति,राजन! यह मेरी दी हुई ताँबेकी बटलोई लो। सुव्रत! तुम्हारे रसोईघरमें इस पात्रद्वारा फल, मूल, भोजन करनेके योग्य अन्य पदार्थ तथा साग आदि जो चार प्रकारकी भोजन- सामग्री तैयार होगी, वह तबतक अक्षय बनी रहेगी, जबतक द्रौपदी स्वयं भोजन न करके परोसती रहेगी

phalamūlāmīṣaṃ śākaṃ saṃskṛtaṃ yanmahānase |
caturvidhaṃ tadannādyaṃ akṣayyaṃ te bhaviṣyati, rājan |
Sinabi ni Vaiśaṃpāyana: “O hari, anumang ihanda sa iyong kusina—mga prutas, mga ugat, karne, at mga gulay—ang apat na uri ng pagkain na ito ay mananatiling hindi nauubos para sa iyo. Hindi ito mauubos hangga’t si Draupadī ay hindi pa kumakain at patuloy na naglilingkod.”
वैशमग्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharma through hospitality and responsible stewardship: abundance is granted to sustain righteous living, yet it is bounded by a moral condition—service and order in the household (Draupadī serving before eating) ensure that resources meet guests’ needs without waste or disorder.
During the Pāṇḍavas’ exile, a boon connected with their cooking vessel is described: whatever food of four kinds is prepared in their kitchen will remain inexhaustible, provided Draupadī has not yet eaten and continues to serve. This secures their ability to feed guests and dependents in the forest.
