अर्जुनस्य वधे क्रूरां करोति सम तदा मतिम्‌ । इधर कर्ण भी नरकासुरकी अन्तरात्मासे आविष्टचित्त होनेके कारण अर्जुनका वध करनेके लिये क्रूरतापूर्ण संकल्प करने लगा

arjunasya vadhe krūrāṁ karoti saṁ tadā matim |

Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: Noon, bumuo siya ng isang mabagsik at walang-awang pasiya upang idulot ang kamatayan ni Arjuna. Nadaig sa kalooban—ang isip ay nasakmal ng impluwensiyang iniuugnay kay Narakāsura—si Karna ay tumungo sa isang malupit na pagpapasya na patayin si Arjuna, na nagpapakita kung paanong ang pagkapuspos sa loob at ang di-mapigil na poot ay nakapagpapalabo ng paghatol at nagtutulak sa tao tungo sa adharma.
