(Sagara-Upākhyāna): Śiva’s boon and the extraordinary birth of Sagara’s progeny
Lomaśa uvāca: nāham ātma-icchayā śailaṃ karomy enaṃ pradakṣiṇam; eṣa mārgaḥ pradiṣṭo me yair idaṃ nirmitaṃ jagat.
Even powerful beings do not act merely from personal preference; they follow an established cosmic ordinance. The ethical implication is restraint: one should align one’s actions with dharma and the rightful order rather than with ego-driven desire.
In the Vindhya–Sūrya episode as recounted by Lomaśa, Vindhya requests the Sun to circumambulate it as the Sun does Meru. The Sun replies that his movement is not a matter of personal choice; it is the path fixed by the world’s ordainer/creator.
