Kṛṣṇa at Duryodhana’s House: Refusal of Hospitality and Departure to Vidura (कृष्णस्य धार्तराष्ट्रनिवेशनगमनम्)
व्यवस्थायां च मित्रेषु बुद्धिविक्रमयोस्तथा । त्वमेव नः कुले धर्मस्त्वं सत्य त्वं तपो महत्
vyavasthāyāṃ ca mitreṣu buddhivikramayos tathā | tvam eva naḥ kule dharmas tvaṃ satyaṃ tvaṃ tapo mahat ||
Sinabi ni Vaiśaṃpāyana: “Sa wastong pag-aayos at pamamahala ng mga gawain, sa pagtitipon at pagpapanatili ng mga kapanalig, at gayundin sa talino at kagitingan, batid ko ang iyong pambihirang kapangyarihan. Sa aming angkan, ikaw lamang ang Dharma; ikaw ang Katotohanan; ikaw ang dakilang pagtalima at pagpipigil na nagtataguyod ng katuwiran.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames ideal leadership as a union of practical competence (orderly governance, alliance management, intelligence, valor) with moral authority (dharma, truth, and disciplined austerity). It teaches that power is ethically legitimate when grounded in truthfulness and dharmic self-restraint.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war diplomacy and counsel, the speaker (Vaiśaṃpāyana narrating) presents a formal eulogy-like statement that acknowledges a central figure’s exceptional capacity in administration, alliances, strategy, and heroism, elevating that person as the moral pillar of the lineage.
