Bhīṣma’s Appointment as Commander-in-Chief
पार्थिवेषु न सर्वेषु य इमे तव सैनिका: । यत् पापं यन्नकल्याणं सर्व तस्मिन् प्रतिष्ठितम्,इन सब राजाओंमें, जो आपकी सेनामें स्थित हैं, जो पाप और अमंगलकारक भाव नहीं है, वह सब अकेले दुर्योधनमें विद्यमान है
pārthiveṣu na sarveṣu ya ime tava sainikāḥ | yat pāpaṁ yan nakalyāṇaṁ sarvaṁ tasmin pratiṣṭhitam ||
Wika ni Kṛṣṇa: “Sa lahat ng mga haring ito na nakatindig bilang mga kawal mo, anumang kasalanan at anumang masamang palad na naririto—ang buong bigat niyon ay nakapasan sa iisang tao: si Duryodhana.”
कृष्ण उवाच
Kṛṣṇa concentrates ethical blame: the many allied kings are not equally culpable; the decisive source of pāpa (wrongdoing) and akalyāṇa (inauspicious intent) is the principal instigator. The verse highlights how leadership and intention can determine the moral character of a collective action.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war negotiations and counsel, Kṛṣṇa addresses the opposing side and assesses the moral landscape of the gathered forces. He asserts that the impending calamity is not inherently rooted in all the assembled rulers, but is chiefly anchored in Duryodhana’s will and policy.
