यं न देवा न गन्धर्वा न दैत्या न च दानवा: । तत्त्वतो हि विजानन्ति तस्मै सूक्ष्मात्मने नम:,जिन्हें न देवता, न गन्धर्व, न दैत्य और न दानव ही ठीक-ठीक जान पाते हैं, उन सूक्ष्मस्वरूप परमात्माको नमस्कार है
yaṁ na devā na gandharvā na daityā na ca dānavāḥ | tattvato hi vijānanti tasmai sūkṣmātmane namaḥ ||
Nag-aalay si Bhishma ng mapitagang pagpupugay sa Kataas-taasang Sarili na napakapino—na ang tunay na kalikasan ay hindi ganap na mauunawa kahit ng mga deva, Gandharva, Daitya, at Dānava. Binibigyang-diin ng taludtod ang pagpapakumbaba sa harap ng sukdulang katotohanan, at itinatatag ang debosyon sa pagkilala sa hangganan ng kapangyarihang makalangit at ng abot ng pag-iisip.
भीष्म उवाच
Even exalted beings cannot fully know the Supreme Reality 'as it truly is' (tattvataḥ). Therefore, the proper ethical-spiritual response is humility and reverent devotion (namaḥ) toward the subtle, transcendent Self (sūkṣmātmā).
In Bhishma’s instruction during the Shanti Parva, he pauses to offer a formal salutation to the Supreme Self, emphasizing that the highest truth surpasses the comprehension of gods and other celestial or powerful classes of beings.
