Yudhiṣṭhira’s Post-Accession Settlements and Approach to Vāsudeva (युधिष्ठिरस्य राज्यस्थापनं वासुदेवाभिगमनं च)
पुरोहिताय धौम्याय प्रादादयुतश: स गा: । धनं सुवर्ण रजतं वासांसि विविधान्यपि,अपने पुरोहित धौम्यजीको उन्होंने दस हजार गौएँ, धन, सोना, चाँदी तथा नाना प्रकारके वस्त्र दिये
purohitāya dhaumyāya prādādayutaśaḥ sa gāḥ | dhanaṃ suvarṇa-rajataṃ vāsāṃsi vividhāny api ||
Wika ni Vaiśampāyana: “Ipinagkaloob niya sa kanyang punong pari na si Dhaumya ang saganang mga handog—sampung libong baka, kasama ang yaman, ginto at pilak, at mga kasuotang sari-sari. Ipinakikita ng gawang ito ang tungkuling dharmiko: parangalan ang pari at tumbasan ang banal na paglilingkod sa pamamagitan ng masaganang, matuwid na pagbibigay.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dāna as a dharmic obligation: honoring the purohita who sustains ritual and moral order, and expressing gratitude through generous, rightful gifts (cows, wealth, precious metals, clothing).
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a figure (referred to simply as ‘he’) rewards his priest Dhaumya with lavish gifts—ten thousand cows and other valuables—signaling respect for priestly service and the social-religious economy of righteous giving.
