Assembly Hymn of Many Names
त्वामेकमाहु: पुरुष त्वामाहु: सात्वतां पतिम् । नामभि स्त्वां बहुविधै: स्तुवन्ति प्रयता द्विजा:
tvām ekam āhuḥ puruṣa tvām āhuḥ sāttvatāṁ patim | nāmabhiḥ tvāṁ bahuvidhaiḥ stuvanti prayatā dvijāḥ ||
Sinabi ni Vaiśaṃpāyana: Ang mga dwija na may pagpipigil-sa-sarili—na pinipigil ang isip at mga pandama—ay nagpapahayag na Ikaw lamang ang Antaryāmin, ang Panloob na Tagapaghari, ang Kataas-taasang Purusha; at ipinahahayag din nila na Ikaw ang panginoon at tagapagtanggol ng mga Sāttvata (mga debotong sumasamba sa bhakti). Sa isip na may disiplina, pinupuri Ka nila sa maraming iba’t ibang pangalan—pinatutunayan na ang iisang katotohanan ay nilalapitan sa sari-saring bansag at mapitagang pananalita.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse teaches that the supreme reality is one—addressed as the indwelling Person and as the protector-lord of devotees—yet praised through many names. It highlights disciplined worship and the legitimacy of multiple divine epithets pointing to a single ultimate.
Vaiśaṃpāyana, as narrator, reports a doctrinal praise: learned, self-restrained dvijas describe the addressed deity as the sole supreme Person and as the lord of the Sāttvatas, and they extol him with various names as part of reverent discourse.
