Prāyaścitta-vidhāna: Tapas, Dāna, Vrata, and Proportional Expiation (प्रायश्चित्तविधानम्)

दश वा वेदशास्त्रज्ञास्त्रयो वा धर्मपाठका: । यद्‌ ब्रूयु: कार्य उत्पन्ने स धर्मो धर्मसंशये

daśa vā vedaśāstrajñās trayo vā dharmapāṭhakāḥ | yad brūyuḥ kārya utpanne sa dharmo dharmasaṃśaye ||

Wika ni Vyāsa: Kapag may isang usaping lumitaw at nagkaroon ng pag-aalinlangan kung alin ang tunay na dharma—lalo na sa mga bagay na nangangailangan ng pagtubos—dapat tanggapin bilang dharma ang anumang pasyang nabuo matapos pagtalakayan ng sampung Brāhmaṇa na bihasa sa Veda at mga śāstra, o ng tatlong palagiang nag-aaral at sumusuri sa dharma.
