प्रज्ञया मानसं दु:खं हन्याच्छारीरमौषधै: । एतद् विज्ञानसामर्थ्य न बालै: समतामियात्
prajñayā mānasaṃ duḥkhaṃ hanyāc chārīram auṣadhaiḥ | etad vijñāna-sāmarthyaṃ na bālaiḥ samatām iyāt ||
Wika ni Nārada: “Sa pamamagitan ng pag-unawa, dapat pawiin ang dalamhating nasa isip; sa pamamagitan ng gamot, dapat pagalingin ang mga karamdaman ng katawan. Ito ang lakas ng tunay na kaalaman—hindi ito naaabot ng mga bata at ng mga hindi pa hinog ang isip.”
नारद उवाच
Mental suffering is best remedied through prajñā (discernment and right understanding), while physical ailments are treated through medicines; the verse elevates inner knowledge as a distinctive power not reached by the immature.
Nārada is instructing the listener in Shānti Parva on practical and ethical self-governance, distinguishing the appropriate means for curing mental distress versus bodily disease and praising the maturity of true knowledge.
