Adhyātma–Adhibhūta–Adhidaivata Correspondences and the Triguṇa Lakṣaṇas (Śānti-parva 301)
इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थाश्व॒ सर्वानात्मनि संश्रितान् । दुर्लभत्वं च मोक्षस्य विज्ञाय श्रुतिपूर्वकम्
indriyāṇīndriyārthāś ca sarvān ātmani saṃśritān | durlabhatvaṃ ca mokṣasya vijñāya śrutipūrvakam ||
Wika ni Bhīṣma: Kapag naunawaan—sa bisa ng mga banal na turo—na ang mga pandama at ang mga bagay na dinarama ay pawang nakasalalay sa Sarili (Ātman), at kapag napagtanto kung gaano kahirap makamtan ang paglaya (mokṣa), nararapat na magpatuloy ang tao na may disiplinadong pag-unawa at pagpipigil-sa-sarili.
भीष्म उवाच
Liberation is rare and difficult; therefore one should understand, in line with Śruti, that senses and sense-objects are subordinate to the Self, and cultivate restraint and discernment rather than being driven by sensory pursuits.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma continues his instruction on dharma and the path to liberation, emphasizing an Upaniṣadic perspective: the senses and their objects do not stand independently but depend upon the ātman, and scriptural testimony should guide one’s pursuit of mokṣa.
