आसीने देवल वृद्ध बुद्ध्वा बुद्धिमतां वरम्‌ । नारद: परिपप्रच्छ भूतानां प्रभवाप्पययम्‌,एक समयकी बात है, बुद्धिमानोंमें श्रेष्ठ बूढ़े असितदेवलको आसनपर बैठा हुआ जान नारदजीने उनसे सम्पूर्ण प्राणियोंकी उत्पत्ति और प्रलयके विषयमें प्रश्न किया

āsīne devale vṛddhe buddhvā buddhimatāṁ varam | nāradaḥ paripapraccha bhūtānāṁ prabhavāpyayam ||

Sinabi ni Bhishma: Noong minsan, si Narada, nang makita ang matandang pantas na si Asita Devala na nakaupo sa kanyang luklukan at makilalang siya ang pinakadakila sa mga marurunong, ay magalang na nagtanong tungkol sa pinagmulan at pagkalusaw ng lahat ng nilalang.
