Yoga–Sāṃkhya Synthesis, Chariot Allegory, and the Vyakta–Avyakta Distinction
तत् सुपर्णार्कचरितमास्थितं वैष्णवं पदम् । भाभिरप्रतिमं भाति त्रैलोक्यमवभासयत्
tat suparṇārkacaritam āsthitaṃ vaiṣṇavaṃ padam | bhābhir apratimaṃ bhāti trailokyam avabhāsayat ||
Wika ni Bhishma: “Ang kataas-taasang kalagayang iyon—na may likas na Vaishnava—ay naabot, bantog sa mga gawang-alaala ni Garuḍa at maningning na gaya ng araw. Sa ningning na walang kapantay, ito’y kumikislap at nagbibigay-liwanag sa tatlong daigdig.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse exalts the ‘Vaiṣṇava padam’—the highest state aligned with Viṣṇu—as the incomparable goal whose radiance dispels darkness across all realms, implying that the supreme good is spiritually luminous and universally beneficent.
Bhīṣma, in his instruction during Śānti Parva, describes the attainment and glory of a supreme Vaiṣṇava state, using imagery of Garuḍa’s famed exploits and the sun’s brilliance to convey its unmatched, world-illuminating splendor.
