देवताभिश्न ये सार्ध पितृभिश्नोप भुज्जते । रमन्ते पुत्रपौत्रैश्न तेषां गतिरनुत्तमा
devatābhiś ca ye sārdhaṁ pitṛbhiś copabhujjate | ramante putrapautraiś ca teṣāṁ gatir anuttamā ||
Wika ni Bhīṣma: “Yaong sa kabilang daigdig ay nakikibahagi sa pinagpalang ligaya kasama ng mga diyos at ng mga Pitṛ, at nagagalak kasama ang kanilang mga anak at apo, ay nakakamit ang kapalarang walang kapantay.”
भीष्य उवाच
Bhīṣma teaches that dharmic conduct yields the highest posthumous destiny: one gains honored association with the gods and the ancestors, and one’s joy is also reflected in the well-being and continuity of one’s descendants—suggesting that virtue uplifts both the individual and the lineage.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and the fruits of righteous living. Here he describes the exalted state attained by the virtuous—enjoying in the company of devatās and pitṛs and rejoicing with sons and grandsons—thereby emphasizing the intergenerational and otherworldly rewards of dharma.
