Adhyāya 199: Karma–Jñāna Causality and the Nirguṇa Brahman

Manu’s Instruction

सोद्य ब्राह्मंं तपस्तेपे संहितां संयतो जपन्‌ । तस्य वर्षसहस््रं तु नियमेन तथा गतम्‌,वह अर्थज्ञानपूर्वक संहिताका जप करता हुआ इन्द्रियोंको संयममें रखकर ब्राह्मणोचित तपस्या करने लगा। नियमपूर्वक जप-तप करते हुए उसके एक हजार वर्ष व्यतीत हो गये

so 'dya brāhmaṁ tapas tepe saṁhitāṁ saṁyato japan | tasya varṣa-sahasraṁ tu niyamena tathā gatam ||

Sinabi ni Bhishma: “Pagkaraan, isinagawa niya ang mahigpit na disiplina na nararapat sa isang brahmana—pinipigil ang mga pandama at walang patid na inuusal ang banal na kalipunan (saṃhitā) na may pag-unawa sa kahulugan. Sa ganitong paraan, sa mahigpit na panata at palagiang pagsasanay, lumipas sa kanya ang ganap na isang libong taon sa japa at tapas.”
