बक-गौतमाख्यानम् / The Baka–Gautama Account

On Gratitude and Friendship Ethics

तथा ब्रद्मर्षिभिश्वैव सदस्यैरुपशोभितम्‌ । तदनन्तर कई सहस्र वर्ष व्यतीत होनेपर भगवान ब्रह्माने शास्त्रोक्त विधिके अनुसार वहाँ एक यज्ञ आरम्भ किया। यज्ञकुशल महर्षियों तथा अन्य कार्यकर्ताओंने यथावत्‌ विधिके अनुसार उस यज्ञका सम्पादन किया। वहाँ यज्ञवेदियोंपर समिधाएँ फैली हुई थीं। जगह- जगह अग्निदेव प्रज्वलित हो रहे थे। चमचमाते हुए सुवर्णनिर्मित यज्ञपात्र यज्ञमण्डपकी शोभा बढ़ाते थे। वह यज्ञमण्डल श्रेष्ठ देवताओं तथा सभासद्‌ बने हुए महर्षियोंसे सुशोभित होता था

tathā brahmarṣibhiś caiva sadasyair upaśobhitam | tadanantaraṁ kaiḥ sahasra-varṣa-vyatīte bhagavān brahmā śāstroktavidhinā tatraikaṁ yajñam ārabhata | yajñakuśalā maharṣayaś cānye ca kāryakartāro yathāvad vidhinā tasya yajñasya sampādanaṁ cakruḥ | tatra yajñavedīṣu samidhaḥ prastīrṇā āsan | sthāne sthāne 'gnidevaḥ prajvalito 'bhavat | camacamāṇāni suvarṇanirmitāni yajñapātrāṇi yajñamaṇḍapasya śobhāṁ vardhayanti sma | sa yajñamaṇḍalaḥ śreṣṭhair devataiḥ sabhāsadbhūtaiś ca maharṣibhiḥ suśobhitaḥ āsīt ||

Sabi ni Bhīṣma: “Ang banal na kapulungan ay pinaganda ng mga Brahmarishi at ng iba pang mararangal na kasapi. Pagkaraan, matapos lumipas ang maraming libong taon, sinimulan doon ng pinagpalang Panginoong Brahmā ang isang yajña ayon sa mga ritong itinatakda ng mga kasulatan. Ang mga pantas na bihasa sa paghahandog, kasama ang iba pang mga tagapaglingkod, ay nagsagawa ng yajña nang wasto ayon sa tuntunin. Sa mga dambana ay nakalatag ang mga patpat na panggatong; sa maraming dako ay naglalagablab ang mga banal na apoy. Ang kumikislap na mga sisidlang ginto para sa paghahandog ay nagdagdag sa ganda ng pabiliong pangyajña, at ang buong pook-ritwal ay maringal—pinalamutian ng mga pangunahing diyos at ng mga dakilang rishi na nakaupo bilang mga kasapi ng kapulungan.”
