त्रिवर्गमूलनिश्चयः — Determining the Roots of Dharma, Artha, and Kāma
Mahābhārata, Śānti-parva 123
एक दिन इन्द्रके सम्मानित सखा उदारचेता शत्रुसूदन राजा मान्धाता उनके दर्शनके लिये आये ।।
sopasṛtya tu māndhātā vasuhomaṃ narādhipam | dṛṣṭvā prakṛṣṭatapasaṃ vinato 'gre 'bhyatiṣṭhat ||
Sinabi ni Bhishma: Lumapit ang Haring Māndhātā sa haring-muni na si Vasuhoma. Nang makita niyang taglay nito ang dakilang pag-aayuno at disiplina (tapas), yumuko si Māndhātā nang may kababaang-loob at tumayong may paggalang sa harap niya—ipinakikitang ang tunay na paghahari ay nagpaparangal sa pagsasanay espirituwal at humihingi ng payo sa pamamagitan ng paggalang, hindi ng pagmamataas.
