Daṇḍotpatti-kathana (Origin and Function of Daṇḍa) — वसुहोम–मान्धातृ संवाद

अथवाडूस्य युक्तस्य रथिनो हस्तियायिन: । अश्वारोहा: पदाताक्ष मन्त्रिणो रसदाश्ष ये

athavā ḍūsya-yuktasya rathino hastiyāyinaḥ | aśvārohāḥ padātāś ca mantriṇo rasadāś ca ye ||

Wika ni Bhishma: “O kaya naman, yaong kabilang sa sandatahang kaayusan ng hari—mga karwahero na may ganap na kagamitan, mga sakay sa elepante, mga kabalyero, at mga kawal na naglalakad—gayundin ang mga tagapayo ng hari at ang mga naglalaan ng suplay at tustos—ang mga ito man ay dapat bilangin sa mga sangkap ng estado. Sa aral ng pamamahala rito, ang kaharian ay itinuturing na parang isang buhay na katawan na binubuo ng maraming bahaging magkakaugnay; kaya ang disiplina at makatarungang pagpaparusa (daṇḍa) ang itinatanghal na pangunahing kasangkapan na nagbubuklod sa lahat.”
