True fitness for kingship is not merely a matter of royal birth; the wise assess and know a person’s inner character (abhyantara). Ethical authority rests on discernment of conduct and disposition.
A sage summons Vaideha (Janaka) and informs him about a prince—stating that the prince is of royal lineage and that the sage knows his inner affairs—setting up guidance or judgment grounded in intimate knowledge of character.
