Bhīma’s Rebuttal of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Renunciatory Inclination
कथं तस्मात् समुत्पन्नास्तन्निष्ठास्तदुपाश्रया: । तदेव निन्दां भाषेयुर्धाता तत्र न गहति
kathaṃ tasmāt samutpannās tan-niṣṭhās tad-upāśrayāḥ | tad eva nindāṃ bhāṣeyur dhātā tatra na gahate ||
Wika ni Bhīma: “Paano magagawa ng mga isinilang mula sa mismong tungkuling kṣātra, nananatiling tapat dito, at nabubuhay sa pag-asa rito, na sila pa ang magpuna at magtuligsa sa kaparehong dharma ng mandirigma? Kung may dapat sisihin man, hindi ba nararapat na sa Tagapag-ayos—na nagtakda ng batas ng digmaan para sa mga kṣatriya—ito ibaling?”
भीम उवाच
Bhīma argues that those whose identity and livelihood rest upon kṣatriya-dharma cannot coherently denounce it; if one insists on blaming the existence of war-duty, the blame would logically be directed toward the cosmic Ordainer who instituted that social-ethical role.
In the Shānti Parva’s reflective setting, Bhīma speaks in defense of warrior-duty, challenging the idea of censuring kṣātra-dharma and shifting the discussion toward the source of such duties—divine ordinance (Dhātā) and the structure of dharma itself.
