Chapter 59: Baladeva’s Censure, Keśava’s Restraint, and Yudhiṣṭhira’s Moral Accounting
तस्यावहासस्य फलमप्य त्वं समवाप्नुहि | “खोटी बुद्धिवाले मूर्ख! तूने पहले मुझे “बैल, बैल” कहकर और एक वस्त्रधारिणी रजस्वला द्रौपदीको सभामें लाकर जो हमलोगोंका उपहास किया था तथा हम सबके प्रति कटुवचन सुनाये थे, उस उपहासका फल आज तू प्राप्त कर ले”
tasyāvahāsasya phalam apy adya tvaṃ samavāpnuhi | “khoṭī-buddhi-vāle mūrkha! tvayā pūrvaṃ māṃ ‘baila, baila’ iti uktvā ca eka-vastra-dhāriṇīṃ rajasvalāṃ draupadīṃ sabhāṃ nītvā asmākaṃ upahāsaḥ kṛtaḥ, sarveṣu asmāsu ca kaṭu-vacanāni uktāni; tasya upahāsasya phalaṃ adya tvaṃ prāpnuhi”
Sinabi ni Sañjaya: “Ngayon ay dapat mong tanggapin ang bunga ng iyong panlilibak. O hangal na may baluktot na pag-unawa! Noon ay nilait mo ako sa pagtawag na ‘baka, baka,’ at dinala mo si Draupadī—nakasuot ng iisang kasuotan at nasa panahon ng kanyang buwanang dalaw—sa bulwagang panghari, ginawa mo kaming lahat na palabas at binato mo ng mapapait na salita ang bawat isa. Ngayon, tanggapin mo ang kaparusahan ng paglapastangan at panlilibak na iyon.”
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores karmic moral causality: public humiliation, cruel speech, and ridicule—especially against the vulnerable—return as consequences. Ethical failure in speech and conduct becomes a cause of later suffering.
Sanjaya reports a denunciation in which the speaker reminds an opponent of earlier insults and the outrage of bringing Draupadi into the assembly in a state of indignity, declaring that the time has come to reap the result of that past mockery.
