शल्यस्य सेनापत्याभ्युपगमः | Śalya’s Acceptance of Command

नोत्सहेड्द्य द्विजश्रेष्ठ पाण्डवान्‌ वक्तुमीदृशम्‌ “तात! मैंने बहुत-से यज्ञोंका अनुष्ठान कर लिया। ब्राह्मणोंको पर्याप्त दक्षिणाएँ दे दीं। सारी कामनाएँ पूर्ण कर लीं। वेदोंका श्रवण कर लिया। शत्रुओंके माथेपर पैर रखा और भरण-पोषणके योग्य व्यक्तियोंके पालन-पोषणकी अच्छी व्यवस्था कर दी। इतना ही नहीं

notsahedya dvijaśreṣṭha pāṇḍavān vaktum īdṛśam | tātāhaṃ bahu-śo yajñān anuṣṭhitavān brāhmaṇebhyaḥ paryāptā dakṣiṇā dattāḥ sarvāḥ kāmanāḥ pūritāḥ vedāḥ śrutāḥ śatrūṇāṃ mastake pādaḥ kṛtaḥ bharaṇa-poṣaṇa-yogyānāṃ ca poṣaṇe suvyavasthā kṛtā | dīnoddhāra-kāryam api sampāditam ataḥ dvijaśreṣṭha nāhaṃ pāṇḍavaiḥ saha evaṃvidhāṃ sandhi-yācanāṃ kartum utsahe || jitāni para-rāṣṭrāṇi sva-rāṣṭram anupālitam nānā-bhogān bhuktavān dharmārtha-kāmān sevitaḥ pitṝṇāṃ ca kṣatriya-dharmasya ca ṛṇābhyām uṛṇaḥ saṃvṛttaḥ ||

Wika ni Sañjaya: “O pinakamahusay sa mga Brahmin, hindi ko kayang magsalita sa mga Pandava nang ganito: ‘Mahal na kaibigan, naisagawa ko na ang maraming handog; nakapagbigay na ako ng saganang dakṣiṇā sa mga Brahmin; natupad ko na ang aking mga hangarin; napakinggan ko na ang mga Veda; naitapak ko na ang aking paa sa mga ulo ng mga kaaway; at naihanda ko ang wastong pag-aaruga sa mga umaasa sa akin. Higit pa riyan, natapos ko rin ang mga gawaing pagdamay sa mga nagdurusa. Kaya, O pinakamahusay sa mga Brahmin, hindi na ako makalalapit sa mga Pandava upang humingi ng kapayapaan sa ganyang paraan. Nasakop ko ang ibang mga kaharian, patuloy kong pinangalagaan ang sarili kong lupain, nagtamasa ng maraming ligaya, sinunod ang dharma, yaman, at pagnanasa, at napawi ko ang utang ko kapwa sa mga ninuno at sa tuntunin ng kṣatriya.’”
