शल्यस्य सेनापत्याभ्युपगमः | Śalya’s Acceptance of Command
उभौ तौ बद्धनिस्त्रिंशावुभी चाबद्धकड्कटौ । कृतवैरावुभौ वीरौ यमावपि यमोपमौ,“दोनों भाई नकुल और सहदेव तलवार बाँधे और कवच धारण किये हुए यमराजके समान भयंकर जान पड़ते हैं। वे दोनों वीर मुझसे वैर मानते हैं
ubhau tau baddha-nistriṁśāv ubhī cābaddha-kaṅkaṭau | kṛta-vairāv ubhau vīrau yamāv api yamopamau ||
Wika ni Sañjaya: “Ang dalawang magkapatid na iyon, sina Nakula at Sahadeva, na nakabigkis ang mga espada at nakasuot ng baluting mahigpit, ay nakakatakot pagmasdan—parang si Yama mismo. Ang dalawang bayaning iyon, na pinagtibay ang kanilang poot, ay nakatindig na tila dalawang Yama sa gitna ng digmaan, handang maningil ng ganti.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the kṣatriya ideal of resolute courage and preparedness in battle, while also warning—through the image of Yama—that war turns human resolve into an instrument of death; ethical gravity accompanies martial valor.
Sañjaya describes two brothers standing fully armed, their hostility fixed and their presence fearsome, likening them to a pair of Yamas to convey their deadly readiness and the imminent violence of the battlefield.
