“वीर! भीमसेन राजा हों। आज इतना अपमान हो जानेपर मुझे जीवित रहनेकी आवश्यकता नहीं है।' ऐसा कहकर राजा युधिष्ठिर सहसा पलंग छोड़कर वहाँसे नीचे कूद पड़े और वनमें जानेकी इच्छा करने लगे। तब भगवान् श्रीकृष्णने उनके चरणोंमें प्रणाम करके इस प्रकार कहा ।। राजन् विदितमेतद् वै यथा गाण्डीवधन्चन: । प्रतिज्ञा सत्यसंधस्य गाण्डीवं प्रति विश्रुता
rājan viditam etad vai yathā gāṇḍīvadhanvanaḥ | pratijñā satyasaṃdhasya gāṇḍīvaṃ prati viśrutā ||
Sinabi ni Sañjaya: Si Haring Yudhiṣṭhira, tinuhog ng matinding kahihiyan, ay biglang tumalon mula sa kanyang higaan at, sa kawalang-pag-asa, ninais umurong sa gubat, wari’y hindi na karapat-dapat pang mabuhay. Noon, si Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa ay yumukod at nagpatirapa sa paanan ng hari at nagsalita: “O Hari, batid ng lahat kung paano kumikilos ang may hawak ng Gāṇḍīva; tanyag ang panatang ng taong nakatali sa katotohanan, kaugnay ng Gāṇḍīva.” Ipinapakita nito ang krisis ng dharma—kung ang sugatang dangal ba’y dapat magtulak sa pagtalikod at pagputol sa tungkulin—at ang pagpasok ni Kṛṣṇa’y nagbalik sa hari sa katatagan, pagpipigil, at dharma sa gitna ng bigat ng digmaan.
संजय उवाच
The passage highlights that decisions made from wounded pride and despair can derail dharma. Kṛṣṇa’s respectful intervention urges steadiness and ethical clarity: uphold rightful duty and evaluate vows and actions by truth and responsibility, not by momentary humiliation.
After a severe affront, Yudhiṣṭhira impulsively rises from his bed and wants to go to the forest, abandoning the war effort. Kṛṣṇa prostrates at his feet and begins to speak, invoking the well-known character of Arjuna—the Gāṇḍīva-bearer—whose famed vow-keeping becomes the pivot for Kṛṣṇa’s counsel.
