Educational Q&A

Even in the midst of war, dharmic leadership expresses gratitude, relief, and honour toward protectors and allies. Yudhiṣṭhira’s welcome models ethical kingship: valuing the safe return of righteous champions and acknowledging the larger, divinely ordered struggle against adharma.

Sañjaya reports that Yudhiṣṭhira, seeing Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna return safely, approaches them joyfully and greets them. The verse heightens the moment through two mythic similes: Sūrya welcoming the Aśvins, and Bṛhaspati congratulating Indra and Viṣṇu after the demon Jambha’s defeat.
