Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical and psychological dimension of war: when a cause weakens or leaders fall, collective morale collapses. In the Mahābhārata’s dharma-framework, inner steadiness and righteous grounding are portrayed as decisive forces alongside weapons.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Kaurava (Dhārtarāṣṭra) forces have become even more despondent, implying setbacks on the battlefield and a worsening state of confidence and cohesion in their ranks.
