sañjaya uvāca | kṛto jighāṃsuḥ śaineyaṃ khaḍgacarmadhṛg abhyayāt |
Sinabi ni Sañjaya: Matapos magpasiyang patayin si Śaineya, lumapit siya sa kanya na may tangan na espada at kalasag. Kaya sa larangan ng digmaan, si Vṛṣasena—na inalisan ni Yuyudhāna ng kanyang sais, mga kabayo, at watawat ng karwahe—ay nanatiling nakaupo sa sariling karwahe sa loob ng dalawang ghaṭikā, lupaypay at tuliro; saka muling tumindig, at sa hangaring patayin si Sātyaki, sumugod na may kalasag at espada. Ipinakikita ng talatang ito na kahit matapos ang mabigat na dagok at panandaliang pagbagsak, ang loob ng mandirigma ay maaaring tumigas tungo sa panibagong karahasan—ang madilim na agos ng digmaan, kung saan ang pasya’y madalas manaig sa pagninilay.
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the harsh psychology of war: even after being incapacitated and humiliated (losing charioteer, horses, and standard), a warrior may reconstitute his will into renewed aggression. It implicitly invites reflection on how determination, when yoked to vengeance, perpetuates violence rather than restoring dharma.
After Yuyudhāna (Sātyaki/Śaineya) disables Vṛṣasena’s chariot setup—removing his charioteer, horses, and banner—Vṛṣasena sits dazed for a while. He then rises, takes up sword and shield, and advances with the intent to kill Sātyaki.
