The verse appeals to the authority of ancient tradition and divine precedent: even exalted beings assume service-roles (like a charioteer) within cosmic order, and true wisdom recognizes such old narratives as part of dharmic understanding—here presumed to be known by Kṛṣṇa.
Śalya, speaking in the Karṇa Parva context, invokes an old mythic episode—Brahmā acting as Mahādeva’s charioteer—and remarks that this entire ancient account would already be known to Kṛṣṇa, using Kṛṣṇa’s presumed omniscience/insight to validate the reference.
