Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ideal of complete preparedness: true leadership in crisis requires mastery of both knowledge (vidyā) and practical capability (astra). It also shows how praise and recognition are used as counsel to strengthen resolve and responsibility in a dharmically fraught war.

Sañjaya, narrating events of the Kurukṣetra war, describes or conveys an address that emphasizes a warrior’s comprehensive expertise—portraying the addressee as fully trained in weapons and learning, thereby framing expectations for decisive action in the ongoing battle.
