पितामहत्वं सम्प्रेक्ष्य पाण्डुपुत्रा महारणे | रक्षितास्तात भीष्मेण दिवसानि दशैव तु,“तात! भीष्मने पितामहके नातेकी ओर दृष्टिपात करके उस महासमरमें दस दिनोंतक पाण्डवोंकी रक्षा की है
pitāmahatvaṁ samprekṣya pāṇḍuputrā mahāraṇe | rakṣitās tāta bhīṣmeṇa divasāni daśaiva tu ||
Wika ni Sañjaya: “Dahil sa paggalang sa katayuan ni Bhīṣma bilang pitāmaha (dakilang lolo), sa dakilang labanan na iyon ay tunay na napangalagaan ng Bhīṣma ang mga anak ni Pāṇḍu sa loob ng sampung buong araw.”
संजय उवाच
Even amid war, dharma can express itself as restraint and reverence for elders and kinship bonds; Bhīṣma’s conduct is portrayed as tempered by his role as the grandsire, limiting harm to those he regards as his own.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that during the first phase of the Kurukṣetra war, Bhīṣma, mindful of his grandsire-status, effectively spared/protected the Pāṇḍavas for ten days while he led the Kaurava forces.
