Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the brutal simultaneity and scale of destruction in war: even the most elite, vow-bound warriors (mahārathas among the Saṃśaptakas) can fall in vast numbers, highlighting the fragility of human power amid collective violence.

Sañjaya, narrating the battlefield events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, reports that he has witnessed the Saṃśaptaka great warriors being struck down in the battle in enormous numbers—hundreds and thousands—falling at once.
