Mahabharata 7.202.883Drona Parva, Adhyaya 202, Shloka 883

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how, in war, mastery of weapons and the surge of anger can quickly turn the tide; it implicitly warns that unchecked amarṣa (intolerant wrath) drives actions that intensify violence, even when performed under the banner of kṣatriya duty.

Sañjaya reports that the wrathful fighter—understood in context as Droṇa’s son Aśvatthāman—cuts down the opposing arrow-shower and then pierces Bhīma with sharp arrows, marking a fierce exchange between major warriors in the Droṇa Parva battle.
