The verse stresses moral accountability: a ruler’s own shortcomings can bring disaster, and failure to restrain or correct a misguided heir (here Duryodhana) leads to ruin. Ethical blindness—refusing to ‘see’ consequences—intensifies adharma and suffering.
Sanjaya addresses King Dhritarashtra, attributing the unfolding calamity of the war to the king’s own fault—especially his indulgence and inability to check Duryodhana—while noting that Duryodhana himself does not recognize the true consequences of his actions.
