Adhyāya 69: Strategic duels under Bhīṣma’s command
Virāṭa–Bhīṣma; Arjuna–Aśvatthāmā; Bhīma–Duryodhana; Abhimanyu–Lakṣmaṇa
The verse highlights orderly dharmic governance: a divine authority gives instruction, formally dismisses the assembly, and returns to his own sphere—suggesting that counsel and action should be conducted with clarity, completion, and respect for proper roles.
Bhishma continues recounting an earlier episode: after addressing the gods and the gathered seers, the Lord (understood here as Brahmā) releases them from the audience and departs to his own abode, closing that divine council scene.
