The Yoga of the Imperishable Brahman
शुचौ देशे प्रतिष्ठाप्प स्थिरमासनमात्मन: । नात्युच्छितं नातिनीचं चैलाजिनकुशोत्तरम्
śucau deśe pratiṣṭhāpya sthiram āsanam ātmanaḥ | nātyucchritaṁ nātinīcaṁ cailājinakuśottaram ||
Sa isang malinis at dalisay na lugar, maghanda ng matatag na upuan para sa sarili—hindi masyadong mataas at hindi masyadong mababa—na may damong kuśa, balat ng usa, at tela, na inilatag sa wastong pagkakasunod. Kapag nakapuwesto na nang ganito, sinisimulan ng nagsasanay ang disiplina nang may katatagan at paggalang.
अर्जुन उवाच
The verse teaches disciplined preparation for inner practice: choose a pure place, establish a stable seat, and maintain moderation (neither too high nor too low). Ethical steadiness is supported by orderly, restrained external arrangements.
Arjuna is speaking while describing the practical method of yogic practice—how a practitioner should arrange a meditation seat in a clean location using traditional materials (kuśa grass, deer-skin, and cloth) to create a stable, suitable setting.
