Even before any explicit moral instruction, the narrative shows the ethical weight of war: the fall of a revered elder like Bhīṣma becomes a moral shock to the entire dynasty, revealing how adharma-driven conflict produces grief and destabilizes those who enabled it.
Sañjaya, distressed, abruptly rises and goes to the brooding Dhṛtarāṣṭra to deliver the battlefield news that Bhīṣma, the grandsire of the Bharatas, has been struck down.
