वे मानससरोवरमें निवास करनेवाले हंसरूपधारी महर्षि एक साथ उड़ते हुए बड़ी उतावलीके साथ कुरुकुलके वृद्धपितामह भीष्मका दर्शन करनेके लिये उस स्थानपर आये, जहाँ वे नरश्रेष्ठ बाणशय्यापर सो रहे थे ।।

sañjaya uvāca | te tu bhīṣmaṃ samāsādya ṛṣayo haṃsarūpiṇaḥ | apaśyañ charatalpasthaṃ bhīṣmaṃ kurukulodvaham ||

Sinabi ni Sañjaya: Ang mga dakilang rishi na nananahan sa Lawa ng Mānasa, na nag-anyong mga sisne, ay sabay-sabay na lumipad na may matinding pagmamadali upang masilayan si Bhīṣma, ang matandang pitāmaha ng angkan ng Kuru, sa pook na kinaroroonan ng pinakamainam sa mga tao na nakahimlay sa higaan ng mga palaso. Paglapit nila kay Bhīṣma, nakita ng mga rishing may anyong sisne ang haligi ng lahing Kuru na nakahiga sa kama ng mga palaso.
