Vāsudeva’s Upadeśa: The Inner Enemy and the Indra–Vṛtra Precedent (आत्मशत्रु-बोधः; इन्द्र-वृत्रोपाख्यानम्)

धराहरणदुर्गन्‍न्धो विषय: समपद्यत | शतक्रतुश्नुकोपाथ गन्धस्य विषये हते

dharāharaṇa-durgandho viṣayaḥ samapadyata | śatakratuś ca kupito ’bhūt gandhasya viṣaye hate, nareśvara |

Wika ni Vāyu: “Nang maagaw ang Daigdig, kumalat ang mabahong baho sa lahat ng dako. Noong unang panahon, isinailalim ni Vṛtrāsura ang buong Daigdig sa kanyang kapangyarihan; at nang makita ni Indra na inagaw ni Vṛtra ang lupa at dinala pa maging ang ‘saklaw ng halimuyak,’ ang Panginoon ng sandaang paghahandog (Indra) ay sinakmal ng matinding galit, O hari. Ipinakikita ng pangyayaring ito na ang paglabag sa wastong kaayusan—ang pag-angkin sa bagay na nagpapanatili ng pagkakatugma ng sanlibutan—ay humihila ng pagsaway ng mga diyos at nagbubunga ng kaguluhang nadarama ng lahat.”
