वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how even rightful, duty-bound decisions can cause deep human sorrow. Compassionate speech and the inevitability of separation expose attachment, reminding the listener that dharma often requires endurance of grief without abandoning what must be done.
After the Kuru king speaks in a deeply moving, sorrowful manner, the assembled people of the Kuru-Jāṅgala region are overwhelmed and begin to weep collectively, reacting like parents pained by the departure of their children.
