Educational Q&A

Even toward former opponents, one should honor benefactors and elders through rightful rites and gratitude; ethical responsibility includes easing a brother’s distress and taking personal accountability for dharmic obligations.

After the war, the Pāṇḍavas arrange śrāddha rites for Bhīṣma and other helpful well-wishers. Arjuna proposes that the necessary expenses be paid from his own treasury so that Bhīma does not feel burdened or saddened.
