Cyavana’s Water-Vow and the Ethics of Cohabitation (स्नेह-सम्वास-धर्मः)
वक्षित्तु संशयो मे5स्ति तन्मे ब्रूहि पितामह । जाते5स्मिन् संशये राजन् नान्यं पृच्छेम कंचन
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca |
vakṣituṁ saṁśayo me 'sti tan me brūhi pitāmaha |
jāte 'smin saṁśaye rājan nānyaṁ pṛcchema kañcana ||
Sinabi ni Yudhiṣṭhira: “May isang pagdududa akong nais ihayag; sabihin mo sa akin ang sagot, O Lolo. Ngayong sumibol na ang pagdududang ito, O Hari, wala na akong tatanungin pang iba tungkol dito.”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined inquiry in dharma: when uncertainty arises, one should approach a trusted, authoritative teacher and seek a clear resolution rather than scattering questions among many sources.
During Bhīṣma’s instruction in the Anuśāsana Parva, Yudhiṣṭhira respectfully presents that he has a specific doubt and requests Bhīṣma (the ‘Grandfather’) to resolve it, declaring he will not consult anyone else on this matter.
