पात्रलक्षण-परिक्षा (Pātra-Lakṣaṇa Parīkṣā) — Criteria for a Worthy Recipient
ब्राह्मणके मुखसे जो वाणी निकलती है, उसे जो शिरोधार्य करते हैं, वे सम्पूर्ण भूतोंको आत्मभावसे देखनेवाले महात्मा कभी पराभवको नहीं प्राप्त होते हैं ।।
bhīṣma uvāca | brāhmaṇake mukhase yo vāṇī nikalatī hai, use yo śirodhārya karate haiṃ, ve sampūrṇa bhūtoṃ ko ātmabhāvase dekhanevāle mahātmā kabhī parābhavako nahīṃ prāpta hote haiṃ || kṣatriyāṇāṃ pratapatāṃ tejasā ca balena ca | brāhmaṇeṣv eva śāmyanti tejāṃsi ca balāni ca ||
Wika ni Bhishma: Ang sinumang nagtatangan sa puso ng mga salitang lumalabas sa bibig ng isang Brahmin—na iginagalang na tila dapat ipatong sa ulo—ay nagiging dakilang kaluluwa, nakikita ang lahat ng nilalang sa pananaw ng Sarili, at hindi kailanman dumarating sa pagkatalo. Sapagkat maging ang naglalagablab na lakas ng mga Kshatriya—ang kanilang ningning at kapangyarihan—ay humuhupa at napipigil sa harap ng mga Brahmin; doon napapapayapa ang kanilang maalab na puwersa at lakas.
भीष्म उवाच
Reverence for the wise—especially the Brahmin’s dharmic counsel—cultivates a Self-centered vision that prevents moral and practical downfall; and unchecked warrior power is meant to be restrained and guided by spiritual-intellectual authority.
In the Anushasana Parva, Bhishma continues instructing on dharma, emphasizing how rulers and powerful persons should honor Brahmin guidance; he frames Brahmins as the stabilizing force that calms the heat of Kshatriya valor and strength.
