Tīrtha-vaṃśa Upadeśa: Instruction on the Fruits of Sacred Waters

Food should be sanctified through a prior offering (ājyāhuti) and approached with righteous conduct; otherwise the act of eating is treated as spiritually tainted, metaphorically described as becoming the ‘share of the rākṣasas’.
In Bhīṣma’s instruction on dharma, he lays down a rule of proper household and ritual practice: serving and eating food without consecratory offering, or eating in a state of immoral conduct, is condemned and framed as feeding impure forces.
