Gṛhastha-Vrata
तामोघवान् ददौ तस्मै स्वयमोघवतीं सुताम् । सुदर्शनाय विदुषे भार्यार्थे देवरूपिणीम्,ओघवती देवकन्याके समान सुन्दरी थी। ओघवानने अपनी उस पुत्रीको विद्वान् सुदर्शनको पत्नी बनानेके लिये दे दिया
tām oghavān dadau tasmai svayam oghavatīṃ sutām | sudarśanāya viduṣe bhāryārthe devarūpiṇīm ||
Wika ni Bhīṣma: Ibinigay ni Oghavān ang sarili niyang anak na si Oghavatī—maganda na parang isang dalagang makalangit—bilang asawa ng marunong na si Sudarśana.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights a dharmic social ethic: learning and virtue are to be honored, and a father’s giving of his daughter in marriage is framed as a responsible, value-based alliance—bestowed personally and with due regard to the groom’s merit.
In Bhishma’s narration, Oghavān arranges the marriage of his daughter Oghavatī to the learned Sudarśana, giving her to him as his wife; her beauty is described as divine-like, emphasizing her worthiness and the significance of the match.
