Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ

Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony

वाय्वाहारैरम्बुपैर्जप्यनित्यै: सम्प्रक्षालैयोंगिभिर्ध्याननित्यै: । धूमप्राशैरूष्मपै: क्षीरपैश्न संजुष्टं च ब्राह्मणेन्द्रै: समन्तात्‌

vāyvāhārair ambupair japyānityaiḥ samprakṣālair yogibhir dhyānanityaiḥ | dhūmaprāśair ūṣmapaiḥ kṣīrapaiś ca saṃjuṣṭaṃ ca brāhmaṇendraiḥ samantāt ||

Napapaligiran iyon sa lahat ng panig ng mga dakilang Brahmin. Ang ilan ay nabubuhay sa hangin lamang, ang ilan ay sa pag-inom ng tubig; ang ilan ay walang tigil sa pag-uulit ng mga banal na mantra. May mga asceta na nililinis ang isip sa pamamagitan ng mga disiplina ng panloob na pagdalisay, samantalang ang mga yogin ay laging nakalubog sa pagninilay. Ang iba nama’y nabubuhay sa usok ng mga apoy na handog, sa init ng matinding pag-aayuno at pagtitiis, o sa gatas—bawat isa’y nagsasagawa ng pagpipigil at pagpapanatili-sa-sarili bilang lantad na anyo ng dharma.
